Hunt creates Hawaii development group
A Texas construction company that specializes in military housing and privatization has spun off the division that handles Hawaii projects.
Hunt Development Group was formed last month by parent company Hunt Building Corp., based in El Paso, Texas.
Hunt is the master developer for the Navy's Ford Island redevelopment. The company has also built more than 2,700 units of military housing on Oahu and renovated more than 2,000 homes at the former Iroquois Point and Barbers Point Navy housing areas.
The new company, which combines three divisions, will handle Hunt's development activities, including public-private ventures and private real estate acquisition and development.
"We believe this new company provides us greater flexibility and strength in the Hawaii market, and enables us to identify and pursue new development opportunities in the islands," said Steve Colon, president of the Hawaii division of Hunt Development Group, which also has offices in El Paso and Irvine, Calif.
